For the fans who weren’t able to get a spot for the fan meet or head down to the Cloud 9 Piazza at Jewel, here’s what went down at the Singapore leg of Arashi’s Jet Storm promotional tour!
11.30am – Public viewing area opens to allow fans who did not win the ballot for the event to join in. Fans fill up the area and sing along to instrumental tracks of Arashi songs played.
2.45pm – Arashi arrive at Jewel Changi Airport
3.15pm – Set against a chorus of screaming and cheering, the group entered the press conference venue and were presented with Merlion chouchou plushies and some orchids by kids in Arashi t-shirts
3.45pm – Press conference ends
Opening with “Hello, we are Arashi!” in unison, the short press conference saw the five-member group greet fans in Singapore for the first time. For some of them, such as Jun Matsumoto, 36, it is their first time ever in Singapore. For other members such as Sho Sakurai, 38, and Masaki Aiba, 36, they have been to Singapore previously. For Sho, he was in Singapore to film the movie “Nazotoki wa Dinner no ato de” (The After-Dinner Mysteries) in 2012, and for the film’s premiere in July 2013. As for Masaki, he visited the Singapore Zoo as part of a segment for the variety show “Tensai! Shimura Doubutsuen” (Genius! Shimura Zoo) back in 2006 and also separately for leisure where he tried hokkien mee and enjoyed it.

Around 50 fans won the ballot to join the press conference while an estimated 1000 fans gathered in the surrounding area. Thanking the fans for coming down, Kazunari Ninomiya, 36, shared that the weather is quite different from Japan, and he is grateful to everyone who came down and hoped they would enjoy themselves despite it being such a short session.
The main message of the press conference was thanking fans for their support over the years and sharing that their music is now available on streaming websites. All 65 singles are available for streaming on sites such as Spotify and KKbox. The music video for their latest single, Turning Up, was released on YouTube on 3 November and currently has over 8 million views.
The press conference ended with Jun giving fans a message in English. “We started YouTube, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Weibo and music streaming so please follow us. We hope this will be a great opportunity for our fans and for us to get much closer to each other. We’d like to share same dream with our fans in the world. Thanks so much for coming today.”
After leaving the stage, the group took a photo with the fans before waving goodbye to the crowd and left amidst a chorus of screams and cheers.

While there is no news of an Asian concert tour yet, there are still two more legs of the Jet Storm tour – Bangkok and Taipei. Maybe one day we’ll see them perform on our shores, but till then, fans will have to settle for their social media updates.
